Cath's artwork

Most of Cath's art work is in pastel and over the years she has developed a unique style.

This achievement has been recognised two years running by The Pastel Society, where Cath has received prizes at their annual showcase at The Mall Gallery, London.

This year's prize is the Debra Manifold Memorial Prize, from the Linda Blackstone Gallery.

Recently she has also been painting in mixed media, using watercolour, collage, acrylic and printing techniques. She can work on larger paintings and enjoys the freedom this brings.

Her style reminds many of fabric and textile techniques. The painting, made up of individual pastel marks, resembles a rich tapestry. Her art is known to many Royal Horticulture Society Members because she illustrated an article in their magazine,’The Garden’ for five years. Many images are available as cards through RHS gift shops and her exhibitions. She is working with the RHS to produce a Christmas card pack.

"Cath’s paintings are exciting representations of landscapes, gardens, coastlines and the urban city scenes around her. She works in pastel, acrylics and mixed media delighting in the effects of light and colour."

“My inspiration comes from the effects of light on my surroundings. The textures and patterns created by sunshine on fields in the landscape, on brickwork on houses and reflections on water, furnish me with the visual stimulus for my work.”

"I feel lucky to work as an artist. I am visually excited by the environ-ment around me whether it the coast, the countryside or the city. My paintings represent my desire to capture and communicate this excitement."
